Ouch, it us. It hit us hard. It wasn’t that when we woke up one morning, we just had the sniffles, from it; it was the full blown disease. What shall I do now, is what many echoed throughout our nation. It is an epidemic, not the kind that puts you in the hospital, but the kind that creates financial worries. Although, many were stressed, are stressed and probably curled up and cried. We still stood strong; a person could see the Symbolic Interaction among our nation, which we have tendency to share among others during trying times.
Taking a look at the way we spend money has truly change the face of America. As I read an article dated March 6, 2009, I thought back to when I separated from the military. “What was I thinking?” According to CNN Money, “The U.S. economy continued to hemorrhage jobs in February, bringing total job losses over the last six months to more than 3.3 million, and taking the unemployment rate to its highest level in 25 years.” Not just any particular job or area of the nation was affected; it was widespread ranging from waiting on tables to construction. Jobs were being slashed left and right, many people were working part-time and for less pay than normal. Our nation was at one of the lowest points it had seen in years, in relation to the job market. Although in January 2009, $787 billion in government spending was put forth to create jobs, those jobs won’t be seen until about the 2010 time frame. Economist knew that the unemployment rates in February 2009 would be the least of what was to come.
With a stimulus package being pushed the month prior to this article, the United States was under a major recession during the majority of 2009. It is as, if some form of disease had truly spread throughout our nation, which also had an impact on economic Globalization. There really isn’t one particular Group to center on as unemployment affected various groups. Unemployment appears to be colorblind. One thing to note is that the Material Culture of the United States would also be affected, due to limited funds among Americans. Unemployment Rates reaching the highest over the past twenty years, one would say that this is not the Norm for the U.S.. During this unemployment rage, a person arriving to America for a chance to better himself might be under a little Culture Shock.
Thankfully I’m glad to report that our nation has found a cure and we are heading out of this recession for brighter times. As the positive Cultural Diffusion of the United States continues to spread, new ideas are being formed on ways to better our nation and to create jobs. Many issues affect the United States and unemployment is one that has truly touched us all. I’m sure, you know someone who has been let go, laid-off, lost their job, or if you choose to say the f word, which is Fired.
